To develop sustainable relationships between Myanmar and overseas  schools stimulating cultural awareness, educational and sporting development. The purpose of the Twins Myanmar project is to establish long-term relationships between Myanma schools affected by Cyclone Nargis and overseas schools (or other non-school ‘sponsors’) through which those Myanma schools can receive financial, material and emotional aid and through which positive cultural links and understanding can be fostered.

Twins Myanmar is a project through which your school can twin with a school in the area of Myanmar (formerly Burma) devastated by Cyclone Nargis. While building a direct relationship with this school, its teachers and its pupils, you can help them to get back on their feet. Over the longterm, you will be able to follow the development of projects that you have helped to make possible.
This might include a new classroom or drinking water well. It might relate to a piece of educational or sports equipment. It might just be a case of seeing smiles return to the faces of those who have lost so much, as you help them to return to some degree of normality. Twins was originally established to help Sri Lankan schools after the 2004 tsunami. The project was recognised as a ‘best practice’ example of relief in the Tsunami region by The Prince’s Trust. We twinned almost 200 schools and are now applying the same process to helping schools in Myanmar.

Twinning of overseas and Myanmar schools Promoting global and cultural understanding and awareness Improving the quality of education for school children Recognising and respecting all cultural, ethnic and religious differences Engaging and working with local  communities Discouraging a culture of dependency Encouraging mutual benefits for all through long term friendship
